a little secret

The color that makes you look awake

One top gets you "you look rested". Another gets you "are you tired?". Same face, same night's sleep. Here is how to find the first kind.

Why Some Colors Make You Look Awake (and How to Find Yours)

I wore my old green sweater today and three people said I looked rested.

You weren't rested. You were lit ♡

By a sweater?

By the color next to your face. It does more than any concealer.

You know the feeling. One morning you pull on something without thinking and the day goes strangely well. People look at you a second longer. Someone asks if you changed your hair. You didn't. You changed the color under your chin.

It isn't luck

The color nearest your face throws its light back onto your skin. Some colors bounce a light that agrees with you: your eyes look clearer, your skin evens out, you look like you slept. Others bounce a light that argues: shadows under the eyes get louder, and you reach for more makeup without knowing why.

Try this at the window

Stand by a window in daylight, with as little makeup as you can bear. Take two tops you own in different colors and hold each one under your chin. Do not look at the top. Look at your face. Do your eyes get brighter, or does the color arrive before you do? Does your skin look even, or do shadows appear? One of them will win. It usually takes ten seconds.

What your closet already knows

Open your closet and find the three things you wear most. Not the ones you love on the hanger, the ones you actually reach for. Very often they sit in the same family of color. Your hand found your colors long before your head did.

And the ones that drain you

Keep them, if you love them. Wear them far from your face: a skirt, a bag, shoes. A color that argues with your skin can still be lovely at your ankles.

There is a reason some colors light you up, and it is yours. We find them all, and fill a mall of your own with nothing else. The doors open soon ♡

Find the one that wakes you up, and wear it on the days that matter ☾

Quick questions

Why do I look tired in some colors?

Because the color beside your face reflects onto your skin. A color that fights your natural coloring deepens shadows and dulls the eyes.

How can I tell if a color suits me?

Hold it under your chin in daylight and watch your face. If your eyes and skin look clearer, it suits you.

Can I still wear colors that don't suit me?

Yes. Wear them away from your face, in a skirt, trousers, shoes or a bag.
