When it's autumn, but still warm

The calendar says knits. The afternoon says sandals. How to dress for the weeks in between and still feel like the season changed.

Transitional Autumn Outfits for When It's Still Warm

There is a strange, lovely moment every year when you are ready for autumn and the weather is not. The mornings have a hint of cool, the light turns golden earlier, and then by noon it is warm again. You want the feeling of a new season without overheating by lunch.

Change the colors before the fabrics

The easiest way to feel autumn is through color. Keep your light fabrics, but move them into warmer shades: rust, olive, caramel, chocolate, a deep burgundy. A linen shirt in terracotta already feels like October.

One layer you can take off

A light cardigan over the shoulders, an unlined jacket, a big cotton shirt worn open. Something you can put on at eight in the morning and tie around your waist at noon without ruining the look.

Swap the shoes, keep the dress

Your summer slip dress becomes an autumn outfit the moment you wear it with loafers or simple ankle boots instead of sandals. Same with a midi skirt and a fitted tee. The shoes tell everyone what season you are in.

Bring in texture slowly

Suede, a little cord, a fine knit tank. Texture whispers autumn without adding heat, and it gets you ready for the real cold when it finally comes.

Enjoy the in-between. It never lasts as long as we think ☾
